News from Easthampton Community Access Television Channel 5
Online Video On-Demand
We've begun archiving our video productions on the internet and hosted on google.video at ecatv5.blogspot.com.
The videos that are posted then become 'syndicated' via an rss feed,
also called podcasting. What this means is that people can access the
videos either via the website or by subscribing to our 'podcast' or
'vlog' video log. This is quickly becoming the internet standard for
syndication, now offered by the major newspapers and most
bloggers...it's that little orange icon called a podcast or feed
chiclet, sometimes labeled xml or rss. To subscribe, users will just
click the orange "chiclet" on the website. We produce a video, city
council mtg, basketball game, etc. A high quality mpeg 2 file of it
goes to the broadcast server for eventual broadcast. A compressed mpeg4
file gets uploaded to google video.
From there, you click a button to post it as an rss feed via a vlog:

This sends the info about the video to feedburner, which is the actual
syndicator of our 'podcast'...

So when a visitor comes to our main website, they can either enter the
video archive and watch what they want on demand, or subscribe to
upcoming video content by clicking the little orange chiclet button.
The whole thing runs free and the only time commitment is uploading the
mpegs to google. It gives us global distribution and syndication.
There are
different pages for different content, with everything also
posting to the main page to be sent out via the RSS feed. This
allows people to find what they want without having to dig
through all our videos:
